ODOT is excited to announce an opening for an inspector in Coquille.As an inspector you will be part of the project manager's crew where you will provide engineering assistance to the project manager and the assistant project manager in administering highway construction projects.

Duties & Responsibilities
+ Advise subordinate employees on details of work duties and proper procedures.
+ Read and comprehend contract plans and specifications and appropriate guidelines for roadway and bridge construction in order to ensure contractor compliance.
+ Inspect and document work performed by contractors. Also has authority to suspend non-specification procedures until the Project Manager is notified.
+ Check quality and quantity of materials received on project by contractor, such as pipe, guardrail, reinforcing steel, landscaping items, and prepares appropriate paperwork.
+ Inspect the quality of materials being placed and the contractor's' methods of construction to ensure compliance to specifications.
+ Randomly inspect for proper sampling and testing procedures and verify technicians' certifications.
+ Participate in and/or conduct construction related meetings to ensure compliance with the Quality Assurance Program.
+ Make computations from field notes. Plot cross sections and profiles. Perform quantity calculations and drafts preliminary maps for location projects.
Qualifications, Required & Requested Skills
Minimum Qualifications
+ An associate's degree in engineering technology from a recognized community college or technical school of engineering and four years of experience directly related to engineering OR
+ Five and one-half years (66 months) of sub-professional engineering experience OR
+ An equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Qualifications
+ Employee will be required to use a vehicle to conduct business; you must possess and maintain a current, valid driver license and acceptable driving record.

+ Experience inspecting highway construction projects including bridges, paving, sidewalks, traffic signals, and drainage facilities.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
